About quinncmckay

This Blog is not about solely the struggle of being a single college student, but about the in depth exploration of the single life and its advantages as well as disadvantages. My blog's goal is to alter people's perception of the single life as well as celebrate the hilarity of single girl's sturggles everywhere.

Drone Delievery

I mentioned this in a previous comment, but UPS is testing out Drone Delivery and Amazon is testing out flying robot carriers to eliminate the use of people in the delivery process all together. Is our dependency on technology over human interaction getting a little extreme? I for one almost hope they don’t follow through with this idea.

Gabby’s Podcast

The last podcast I listened to was Gabby’s about sexuality. I really enjoyed that it was a real story and so personal because they grab in the listener, as soon as I realized it was a true story something switched in my brain and I was suddenly more in tuned with the podcast. I think it is because real life experience provides more emotion and allow listeners to relate more to their own personal experiences. I also really enjoyed it because the podcast was broken up with not just her speaking but also music and different voices. I’m really glad Gabby was able to take such an intense and controversial topic and use it for her podcast it was brave and very creative.

Rutgers Bus Playlist Podcast

I listened to Jenna’s podcast on sororities and stereotypes. I found it interesting because as a girl who isn’t associated with a sorority I compared my own stereotypes with the ones mentioned in the podcast. I really liked the introduction with all of the sorority’s songs and chants and how she included the letter that anyone who goes on websites such as buzzfeed has heard about from last spring. And while I don’t think I hold too many stereotypes to Rutgers sororities that she mentioned because many of my friends are in sororities it actually made me really glad to be a “GDI” otherwise known as God Dam Independent and furthermore meaning not affiliated with Greek Life. Being a GDI I don’t have to constantly deal with people holding stereotypes about me for which group of friends I associate with. While I understand there are lots of benefits to being a member of Greek Life, I think for me personally I was able to accomplish those things on my own and therefore embrace the term GDI.

I did disagree with how she ended the podcast because I feel as though people come into Rutgers with an open mind about Greek Life and then from their own experience begin to judge it and form stereotypes about certain sororities at Rutgers by what they hear from their friends. I think people need to remain open minded and now that one incident with an individual in a sorority should not embody the group as a whole.

Vodka Sam

This is is an article off of the girl I mentioned in class. If she had done the same thing without posting any of it to social media, her reputation would not be a viral story. The girl Sam mentions how she can only blame herself for posting about her drunken actions to Twitter, but that she had no intention of it being a national story. The tweet “Just went to jail #yolo” got her over 25,000 followers in less that 24 hours. It begs the question, just as Carr believes, that the internet and social media are changing the world we live in for the negative. The show 20/20 labeled her tweeting as T.U.I -Tweeting Under The Influence. Is the way we use social media to express drunken actions or embarrassing thoughts a generational issue or individual? Personally I believe this is generational and as bad as it is, if I were in “Vodka Sam’s” shoes in jail cell under the influence with my cell phone I too would have done something similar. I think that it really shows the negative aspects of putting your personal information on the internet and how others can take advantage that. Now “Vodka Sam” is staying away from social media for awhile because of her recent experience. After she deleted her account many fake accounts appeared with her picture and name.

I think this issue shows a lot about what we put on the internet and how others can use our information that we put on the internet. Will more people make similar mistakes and stay away from social media or will we learn our lesson and post less personal information on the world wide web? Personally I don’t think people will stop posting personal information on Twitter or Facebook, but rather they need to learn how to use their privacy settings.

Best Halloween Costume

This video went viral in about two days and it is one of the best Halloween costumes I have ever seen i think the internet is such a great way for us to connect to people we would have never hear of or seen. I am no expecting to see many more LED stick figure Halloween Costumes than I originally thought I would have. I think YouTube Videos that go viral are one of the most exciting parts of YouTube and is something that defines are generation, we all secretly want to be YouTube sensations.

When will the updates stop?

So I recently got an iphone 5 in June and was very happy with it until the iphone 5S came out making me feel as though my new iphone 5 was old news. Everyone around me began updating to the new phone and soon my new shiny EXPENSIVE phone was older than the original iphone. My next goal was to purchase an ipad and after waiting in line at the Apple store which is ALWAYS busy I came to find out that there was a new ipad in line to be released and would only make my recent purchase outdated again. So here is the question, will there ever be an end to the updates? Will we ever get too advanced that there is nothing more we can do to make out fancy phones fancier or is this just a reoccurring pattern that has to become a part our lives?

All I can say is I for one will be out buying the new Ipad Air, because I can’t help but succumb to the need for the newest technology.
